Starry Night (1889), painted during Van Gogh’s time at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum, is the cornerstone of the GlasGogh collection. My journey began with attempts to capture the essence of Glasgow’s West End, leading to many experiments with the sky. A visit to a Van Gogh exhibition in Glasgow ignited the idea of adopting his iconic style. The swirling, dream-like patterns of the night sky are mirrored here over Glasgow University and its surroundings, creating a bridge between Van Gogh’s world and our own city.
