Inspired by the many paintings of worn boots created by Vincent van Gogh, Cobalt Soles brings that same sense of character and humanity into a contemporary GlasGogh setting. This painting is based on my own pair of Doc Marten boots, familiar, well-worn and full of presence, reimagined through expressive colour, movement and light.
Van Gogh found beauty and meaning in ordinary objects, and these boots carry that same spirit. They suggest journey, labour, creativity and identity. The use of cobalt blue is especially important here, linking the painting to a colour that runs through much of the GlasGogh collection. It brings depth, energy and emotional weight, lifting this everyday object into something both personal and painterly, a tribute to Vincent, and a reflection of the paths we walk ourselves.
