The Night Café (1888) is a striking painting by Vincent van Gogh that depicts the interior of a café in Arles, France. Through bold colours and dramatic brushwork, he creates an intense and atmospheric scene. There are many Glasgow bars that could match that mood, but I wanted to bring a flavour of Glasgow directly into the picture — by introducing Vincent to Billy Connolly. Two of the most creative people I could imagine in conversation. Billy is dressed in the style of Joseph Roulin, the postal worker and friend of Van Gogh. He wears it well.
